So when do we fit in me-time and self-care?
Over the past month or so I’ve been trying to align my personal and professional life that I can maximize my energy.
A wise friend shared with me once that we need to be really thoughtful around how and when we spend our energy. We don’t have unlimited amounts. And we can end up wasting energy on things, people, and endeavors that are not good for us.
When we think of self-care often it’s thoughts of bubble baths, massages, crystals and candles.
But it can also be more nuanced. Like choosing roles at work that challenge and fulfill us. Trying CBD as a form of achieving holistic wellness and alleviating stress. Signing up and committing to that fitness class and making time for it, even if you have to say no to other things.
I made a list about a month ago of all the aspects of my life that give me energy and all the aspects that drain it.
Guess what.
The “draining” list was a lot longer.
So I’ve made some changes. Changes around my career and investments in my family’s future (I launched a side hustle that has been exploding, you can respond directly to this email if you want to hear more about it). I went and got headshots taken so I could look back and mark that time in photos that I decided to make these shifts. AND, headshots can be such an act of self-care. The photographer captured my essence and it was such a confidence boost! I’ve also started doing Orange Theory several times a week, too.
This email I send every week is a priority. But one shift I’m going to make is being strict with myself around the day I send it. Just know that if you need your fix, you can always join the conversation at Modern Revel Downstairs. And if you’re interested in exclusively beauty content, don’t miss joining the Modern Revel Beauty group on Facebook, too.
Our Summer Reading Challenge Continues.
Overall, people have been disappointed with The Farm.
Most are loving City of Girls.
And a lot have Queenie in progress or next on their list.

Baby, it’s hot outside. Turn up the AC and look at these photos of some of the coldest places on Earth to cool down.
Marie Kondo taught us to hold something in our hands and if it doesn’t bring us joy, get rid of or give it away. Including our weathered and worn clothing and things in need of repair. My friend Min share this article about the “life changing magic of making do” and it made me really think about consumerism.
Move over Hygge, what the world needs now is Niksen, sweet, Niksen. The concept sounds like exactly what my stressed self needs, but I’m not sure I could do it. Could you?
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS? Who is in for a Back to School Reading Challenge where we work our way through Sweet Valley High series and listen to the podcasts? (Although I don’t think I can wait that long!)
