This Week We're Reveling In...
Our Trendsetter Status.
We know that being our age is awesome. We revel in it. And apparently style trends love us, too.
Going gray? They're nicknamed "tinsel tresses". Oh and...people are paying for it.
Easy, comfy style inspired by menopausal women(I wish I was kidding)? Yep, it's being embraced.
And then of course, there's the high-waisted jeans like we wore in the 90s. Full coverage is the fad.
In the meantime, while our younger friends are taking steps to dress and look older, here is a video of six simple things you can do to look younger from Dominique Sasche, one of my favorite beauty and style YouTubers (I think she's also a news anchor in Houston, too).
Quick, worthy reads:
Summer will never be as awesome as it was in the 90s. Take a quick walk down memory lane with a dose of nostalgia from Scary Mommy.
Girls Trip! I'm going to Wanderlust Festival in Vermont next month for 4 days of self-care (I'm doing a meditation immersion with Emily Fletcher, too). If you don't have it on your priority list, add taking a getaway with your girlfriends. Need more convincing? Read this.
I had mixed feelings reading this article about GenX. I do agree, thought, that while for a hot second we were known as Slackers, in reality, that couldn't be further from the truth.
Intermittent Fasting
The topic of intermittent fasting has come up a few times Downstairs so I thought getting an overview and some background on the science on why it's beneficial could be helpful for us -- especially as it pertains to aging.
Let's Talk Weighted Blankets
I have been using a weighted blanket for the past several months and it helps me sleep more soundly. There's something super comforting and calming about having the heaviness of the blanket as I sleep. I imagine it's what a swaddled baby feels like.
The one I bought at Target is plush and a nice weight (15 pounds), but not so great for someone who gets the occasional episode of night sweats. 🙋♀️
And, as the weather warms up, the plush blanket was causing me to overheat.
So I bought a "cooling" one I found on Amazon. It's got a cover (removable and washable) that feels just like a soft, worn in sweatshirt and it's super heavy at 20 pounds.
Since I don't have an Instagram husband to capture a super glossy photo of me all snuggled up with my weighted blanket, the one here of it on my bed will have to do.
I've loved getting to know fellow Revelers in our dedicated community Downstairs. Did you know that Amy is going to paddleboard from the Bahamas to Florida (!!!!) as part of Crossings for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis? We'll be able to follow along and cheer her on when she does.
