It's My Birthday Week.
I'd do that little coy thing we've done for years now and say, "I'm 29 for 14th time." However, this year, I'm embracing my age.
I'm forty freaking three years old. 43. Fooooorrrrrrtttyyyy-threeeee.
And every single one of those 43 years has made me who I am today.
Maybe it was those 4 days in the mountains meditating and going out of my comfort zone.
Perhaps it's been the absolutely crazy (and if I'm being honest, sometimes downright bizarre) year I've just had career-wise.
Or it could just be that I'm tired of living my life to meet other people's expectations, that I confess sometimes the "how will I explain this decision to [insert people I'm afraid to disappoint, confuse, or be judged by here]" is a factor when I'm faced with a challenge or opportunity.
So, the birthday gift I'm giving myself this year is to stop living my life for other people and to live life for myself and the people I love and who love me.
And if you're feeling generous, you can give me a birthday gift, too.
For my birthday, I want you to join me and forgive yourself, stop the negative self-talk, take risks, and let the ish go!
I'm also celebrating my birthday by sharing and giving away some of my favorite things! Visit the Facebook Group and join the fun.
Don't forget, the Modern Revel Summer Reading Challenge is underway. I just finished The Islanders and now I'm moving on City of Girls.

I related so hard to "The New Midlife Crisis" on Oprah.com. The passage below made me laugh because the very same thought (and many in the same vein) has crossed my mind while on similar conference calls.
